ArcServe in Park Camino failed because it said it did not see the tape cartridge in fact there was one in the drive. Tried to eject the tape cartridge but it would not eject either. Had to reboot the server before it would eject the cartridge. Ran a cleaning cartridge on the tape drive. Formatted one tape cartridge to make sure the tape drive is operating properly.

Arrived at the end user’s place around 7:45PM, Thursday. Unhooked their old computer and hooked the new computer in its place. The new computer booted just fine. Went through the initial WinXP setup with end user. Made sure internet connectivity was working, powered PC off and on to make sure it keeps working. Had end user sign off on the work order.
Replacement part did not come with preprinted waybill. Called OnForce. They said HP does not need power supplies so there’s no need for me to return the part. Faxed signed work order. Completed work order for payment.

Picked up replacement power supply at FEDEX. Called end user to confirm appointment on Monday. End user complained Monday is too late, wanted me to come sooner. Told her that was the time entered on the work order. Told her I’ll check with CompUSA and will call her back.
Called CompUSA. Said its okay to reschedule. Called end user back. Rescheduled for tonight after 6pm.

Mary wsa notified that one of the PCs in Solana Beach was not booting up. The user swapped the non-functioning PC with a good one.
I went to Solana to check the PC out. It booted up just fine. Applied updates and other patches. Made sure memory is secure.

Scheduled for Monday 3/23 bet 8-10am. End user is in Chula Vista. PC turns on for 3 sec. then shuts down. Will pickup replacement power supply from FEDEX.
Hopefully, its just the power supply. Could be anything. PC has not been working since out of the box. If it’s not the power supply and I could figure out what it is, that would be good. I may be able to increase the spend limit if I do additional work.

Mary Ann called me on my cell and reported that the print job she sent from NGS has been stuck on the queue for almost an hour. NGS was printing to her default printer which was a HP4000. There is no way within NGS to change default printers. I told her to manually change her default printer to the newer HP4250 whenever she needs to print from NGS.

Linda emailed Mary Ann that the digital sender jams on the first page. Mary Ann forwarded the email to me. When I got into the office, Mary Ann and I checked what was wrong. We found a piece of paper in between the white film that’s under the automatic document feeder.
I also showed Mary Ann how to change the default paper size from letter to legal and vice versa. Seems like the scanner cannot handle originals with varying paper sizes.

Finally setup Jackie’s wireless home network so she can work from home. Her cable internet feed is in her living room downstairs while her computer is setup on a room upstairs. I connected the wireless router to the cable modem and installed the PCI Wireless adapter on her computer. Her computer picked up the wireless router signal, as well as a couple of other signals from around her neighborhood, including another linksys unsecured wireless access point. I then setup the wireless router for WEP encryption. I changed her wireless profile to match the WEP settings. I rebooted the computer and was able to connect withe WEP. However, when I changed the WEP name to something she chose, I clicked ‘Reset Security’ instead of ‘Save Settings’. This changed the security from WEP to some other setting. I had to connect the router directly to the ethernet port of the computer to reconfigure it.
Everything else worked perfect after I got the wireless setup. We were able to connect to VPN successfully and connected to her computer at work through pcAnywhere.
i also showed her how to access her COX email account via webmail.
Before I left, she reimbursed for the cost of the router and wireless adapter. She said she’ll also treat me to lunch at PF Chang’s.

We had a conference call regarding a DSL line for Scripps for redundancy. I was pretty much just a listener throughout the call. Scripps T1 line has gone down twice now after heavy rain so Lori suggested setting up a DSL line for redundancy. Mary is going to order a business grade DSL line with at least 1 static IP address. FNIS will order a 831 DSL router and create a half tunnel through our existing CISCO router. Traffic is supposed to automatically transfer to the DSL connection in case the T1 line goes down. Users will only notice about a minute of disconnection.
