Bank of America Loan Docs for Eliza Nunez

Jul 24
Comments

Eliza needed help printing BofA loan docs. She downloaded the file to her hard drive but did not know how to open it. Usually there would be an accompanying email giving instructions on how to download and install the document viewer, but she did not receive one.

I looked around for the BAINSTALL software on our servers and found one stored in the PARKCAM server. Her file opened right up as soon as I installed the viewer.

Email attachment issues in University City

Jul 17
Comments

Melanie Draheim called me about 5:30 PM. She had trouble sending PDF attachments she scanned on the digital sender. The email comes back undeliverable and saying it was to large to send. The attachments were 17MB big. I thought maybe the recipient’s mail system rejects large attachments. I also looked at her mailbox. Those emails with the large attachments made her mailbox size over the limit. I cleaned up her mailbox down to around 40MB and sent and email to myself. It went through just fine. Then Melanie commented that they’ve been doing this for months and this is the only time her attachments were rejected. She insisted that she was sending attachments the same size. When I asked her to look for a sample of any files she sent that were huge, she could not find any. That’s when we wondered why the digital sender was outputting large files. I asked them to check the settings of the scanner. Sure enough, the scanner was set to scan in color which increases the file size of the PDF files by 8X. After I walked them through setting the default setting to B&W, their email issues got resolved.

Comments

At last, Vanessa Jay’s new computer should be ready to replace her old one. Transferred files from her old hard drive to the new hard drive last Friday. Created printer objects for her today. Created an Access database for her to replace her Approach database. She was pleased that its easier to generate the report she needs on Access.

Called her this morning but got her voice mail. Asked me to call me back so she can test drive the new computer. i already worked on remote access to this computer with her a while back.

Doreen Markel lost access to Order reports.

Comments

When Doreen was forced to changed her Windows password, she lost track of what her Novell password was. So she can get to her computer, she had to login workstation only. That prohibited her from accessing Order reports stored in the Novell server.

I reset her Novell account and walked her through syncing it with her Windows account. Created a shortcut on her desktop for the Shared directory where the reports are stored.

She also requested access to the reports on the Scripps Ranch server. I created an account for her on the Scripps Ranch server, synced her passwords, and created shortcuts for the Shared directory as well.

Scripps Ranch DSL line

May 09
Comments

Yesterday, I hooked up the equipment for Scripps Ranch’s DSL line. Chris from COVAD terminated the DSL link on the MPOE and setup the DSL bridge modem. At 6pm, I worked with Chris from FNIS in Florida who gave me instructions on how to connect the Cisco DSL router. We conferenced in with Sprint. For a while they were not able to get the connections working because the DSL connection keeps dropping. I had to power cycle the DSL modem a couple of times before they decided that everything was working right.

However, today Chris from FNIS called me that the DSL line was down again. I called COVAD. The first tech told me to factory default the DSL bridge modem and make the Cisco router do the authentication. I talked to Chris about it and he said he did not want any authentication. I called COVAD again and they said all their lines need authentication. I told Chris about it and suggested he talk to COVAD. I emailed him the necessary info.

Comments

ArcServe in Park Camino failed because it said it did not see the tape cartridge in fact there was one in the drive. Tried to eject the tape cartridge but it would not eject either. Had to reboot the server before it would eject the cartridge. Ran a cleaning cartridge on the tape drive. Formatted one tape cartridge to make sure the tape drive is operating properly.
