Lisa Pearson could not login

Posted in SysAdmin Logs at 9:58 am by thirdfm

Issue: Lisa had problems logging on today.

Background: She also had problems logging on yesterday. Her password to the Novell server was changed as an attempt to get her logged on.

Cause: She forgot the password assigned to her Novell account yesterday. She was entering her original Novell password which was the same as her Windows password.

Solution: Change her Novell password again to sync with the Windows password, but since Novell won’t let you reuse a password, change both Novell and Windows to a different password altogether.

Printer objects in Customer Service PCs

Posted in SysAdmin Logs at 4:01 am by thirdfm

Some PCs in Customer Service still had printer objects that point to print queues in the SD_MKT server instead of pointing to a TCP/IP port. Apparently these printer objects were not converted when we did the migration from SCA to FNFINC domain. I deleted these printer objects and setup new ones configured using TCP/IP ports. I did Deeanna and Vanessa. Mary did Lisa Pearson.

Air conditioning went down @ NORTHSIDE

Posted in SysAdmin Logs at 4:31 am by thirdfm

NOC called on my cell at 2:00AM. Email server (SMBFNFG-SDG01) is down. Wanted me to take find out what’s going on. Got to Northside at 2:20. Server room was 99 degrees. Equipment were beeping incessantly. Called NOC back and reported status. Called Mary Gregory. Turned utility fan on. Propped server room open. Shut down servers. Called air con people.

4:11 AM. Server is down to 92 degrees. Two Novell servers still up. Waiting for backups to finish. Air con guy is coming down from LA. ETA around  2 hours. Doing RAID rebuild on SD_MKT.

Janet Frank’s printing issue

Posted in SysAdmin Logs at 4:34 pm by thirdfm

Janet Franks reported that when she prints her emails, the printout is a bunch of numbers and unreadable characters. When I looked into it, it turned out to be the PDF attachments that were not printing right. I looked at the installed printer drivers on the printer. It was a Lexmark T616 postscript driver. I replaced the driver with a Lexmark T616 PCL driver. I used the installler that was stored in the La Jolla server. That seemed to have fixed the problem.

Sales rep Blackberry issues

Posted in SysAdmin Logs at 4:24 pm by thirdfm

A sales rep called and reported that his Blackberry has not been receiving emails. He said Billy worked on his computer yesterday and that may have something to do with it. He called me because he could not get a hold of Billy. I told him he may just needs to resync his device with his Outlook profile. He told me the last time Billy fixed this problem, Billy did not need his Blackberry device. I told him I’ll get a hold of Billy.

I called Billy. Billy said he never worked on the sales rep’s PC yesterday. He said he just called in to the FNF help desk to reset his password. Billy also said the last time a similar problem occured with the sales rep’s Blackberry, he had to resync the device. Billy is going to call the sales rep.

Park Camino Database lock up

Posted in SysAdmin Logs at 3:38 pm by thirdfm

Mary Gregory called me at home at 8:42 and asked me to check the Park Camino escrow database. Eugene reported that when users login to the database, they get a message that the database is open for read-only access. I called Eugene and had him open the database. He did not get the error message anymore. I asked him to call me if any issues come up again. Around 9:00 am, Sherrie reported that when she tries to create a new escrow entry, the database takes her to the debug mode. I told her I’d look into it when I get to the office. When I checked on her at the office, she told me all the issues went away after Mary put in the second backup tape. She thinks the server might have been in the middle of backing up the database when it asked for the next tape and locked the database file up until it was done backing up the entire file. I think that may be what happened.

The problem is if this continues to happen every day. They can’t wait until the tape is changed so they can access their database. Possible solutions: 1. Install a bigger tape drive 2. Reduce the amount of files on the server so it will fit on one drive. 3. Do not backup the entire server, just backup the directories that changes every day.

Suzanne Cross’ laptop

Posted in SysAdmin Logs at 2:59 pm by thirdfm

Yesterday, at 3:02 p.m. I got an email from Diane Lindsey asking me to help Suzanne with her access to TEAM at home. I told Suzanne to bring her laptop in her office in Bonita so I can pick it up or work on it there. Today I dropped by the Bonita office and checked out her laptop. VPN and NGS were already installed and working. I just had to install Reflection and copy the SANDIE settings file on her desktop.

We had password issues in her FNFINC domain account. We got locked out a couple of times and had to call FNF support to unlock her account and reset her password.

Posted in SysAdmin Logs at 7:45 pm by thirdfm

Northside backups now take 3 tapes. It might actually just need two tapes if we use DAT72 tapes. As of 4:33pm it was still verifying the first tape. Backup finished at 7:45pm
