Luke conducted today’s FHE. He also said the opening prayer. In his prayer he asked Heavenly Father to help us not be afraid of the dark. He remembered Mom’s advice that if we feel afraid of the dark, we just need to pray. Jill and Luke also picked the songs we sang for opening and closing hymn. They picked the songs that they were going to sing in an upcoming presentation.
For our talent show, Jill showed off her jump rope skills. Luke sang “I’m Trying to Be Like Jesus” with some help from Mom and Jill.
For our lesson we read a story in the current Ensign magazine about a mom who saved her son by listening to the promptings of the Holy Ghost to check her boys while they were sleeping.

I gave Aaron a blessing last Sunday. I invited. Pres. Alcantara, Bro. Carpio, Bro. Vic Magapan, and Bro. Jun Resolme to join me in the circle. Aaron was quiet throught the blessing.
Because it was a special occasion, for break-the-fast, we brought two pans of food which we ordered a week ago and picked up Saturday night to avoid breaking the Sabbath.

I picked up Jen and Aaron at the hospital today. The kids were excited to have Mommy and their baby brother home.

Aaron Go Murillo was born today at Kaiser Hospital in San Diego on March 26, 2006 @ 6:38 AM.
Jen started labor around 1:30 AM. At 2:30 AM she woke me up and told me this could be the real thing. We started getting ready and made plans for our next move. We called the hospital to let us know of our situation. The hospital told us to stay put until the contractions become more frequent and the pain becomes more intense. We decided to call Gene Clark to watch Jill and Luke while we are at the hospital. Luckily Gene was awake when we called. I picked her up around 3:30 AM. Her daughter Maribel decided to go with her. A little after 4:00AM we decided to drive to the hospital. We got to the hospital at 4:30AM where Jen was promptly checked by a nurse.
Jen was transferred to the delivery room around 5:30AM. At 6:00AM they decided to burst her water bag and Jen started pushing. The baby came out at 6:38AM. I got to cut the umbilical cord.

Jen had another prenatal checkup yesterday. The doctor advised her to get a nonstress test since she has not been keeping up with her kick count. I suggested she asked Juliet to drive her to Kaiser Zion, but she said she could manage on her own. Gave her directions to get there. She said all indications were okay. The baby is doing well. She’s scheduled to do another one on Friday.

Last Friday Jill got an Academic Achievement award from her school. She was one of two kids in her K1 class that got an award. Her K1 class is a combined kindergarten and grade 1 class. When they have more than usual number of kindergarteners, they put some of the more mature ones together with some first graders and combined them in one class.
The other girl in her class that also got an award was also a kindergartender. Jen and I wondered why no first graders were chosen. Were Jill and the other girl who are just kindergarteners doing better than the first graders in her class? Why were they giving the awards in the middle of the school year? Are they giving awards every end of a semester (fall, winter, spring)? If so, were there award ceremonies that were held that we did not know about because Jill was not a participant?
In any case, I’m proud that Jill is showing promise academically. She’s been doing well with her reading and writing. I hope she keeps up with it so she’ll have good opportunities when she goes to college.

The other day, Jen reported that Jill got some kind of academic award. She said she’s one of only two in her class that got an award. The ceremony will be on March 10th. That’s the day Mary gets back from vacation. I told Mary I will be coming in later that day.

Juliet is planning to visit us in March. She booked her flight through PriceLine. She made a mistake on her return flight. She put March 18 instead of March 25. Her co-teacher offered to drive her back, but asked if she could spend a night or two at our house. Fine with me, especially if it will help Juliet out, but asked Juliet to check with Jen. Jen takes care of the house so we want to make sure she feels okay with it.

Spent all day with my family. I was supposed to take videos of the Mormon Batallion parade at Old Town but Jen wasn’t up to it. I called Geronimo that my family and I will not be able to make it. After breakfast, I played with the kids, then took a long nap. I was also supposed to work at the temple today but thought I’d just keep Jen company instead. After all, the family should be more important than anything else. I need to tell Bro. Pope I would not be able to work at the temple until a month after Jen delivers the baby.
We waited for Luke to wake up from his nap before we left to run errands. We decided to get some groceries first. By the time we got to Food4Less, Jill was asleep in the car. Luke and I stayed in the van with Jill while Jen did the shopping. We then went to Maharlika’s to buy some cooked food. we met the Badiola’s at the parking lot. I parked next to their car which happened to have run out of battery. They were in the middle of calling for roadside assistance from AAA. I was able to jump start their car so they called off the roadside assistance.
We did not go to the mall like we planned to because Jill was still asleep. We went back home and had dinner.

Jen took Luke and Jill to the dentist for the very first time today. Jen said the kids were cooperative and had a pleasant time. The dentist recommended a root canal for two of Jill’s teeth and fillings on three molars. Total cost for the work recommended is more than $2000. Yes, we only have a minimal copay, about $25 per tooth, insurance covers the balance. The dentist justified the necessity of the procedures because he said the condition of the baby teeth could affect the health of the permanent teeth that replaces them. However, I had a feeling some of these procedures may be unnecessary since the teeth will just fall off one a time in the next few years. The dentist just wants to milk the insurance companies.
I did not have he best oral hygiene practice when I was growing up. Tiyay Maret and Tiyay Kit did encourage me and my cousins to brush after every meal, but we were never taught how to floss. As a student at CPU Elementary, we get to have an annual checkup at the school’s dental clinic. I remember when I was five or six when my baby teeth started to fall off one by one. One summer, I spent summer vacation in Hinobaan where Tiyay Maret worked at ILCO hospital. I stayed at Manong Tikboy’s house. That summer, Tiyay Maret arranged to have some dental work done for me. I had five of my remaining baby teeth pulled in one sitting. I am pretty sure they were all full of cavities by then. Soon after that, my permanent teeth started coming out. I had a full set of permament teeth by the time I was in High School. In one of my dental checkups, the dentist commended my teeth. She said I had a perfect set of strong teeth. Apparently, none of those cavities which I had from my baby teeth affected the growth of my permanent teeth.
So, should I have the dentist recommended work done for Jill? I’d have to search the Internet to see what people say. I may have to ask other dentists we can trust who do not have a vested interest in the matter.
