Misti Rose’s Outlook won’t come up

Misti came in our office and reported that she can’t get to her email. She’s getting an error message that says the server is not accessible. I knew there’s nothing wrong with the email server because everybody else is working just fine. I looked at her Outlook profile to make sure her settings are good. Everything looked good, but to make sure she connects to the server right, I removed her email account and added it back again. I opened Outlook again and it seemed like it was opening up, but it gave the error message again. Then it occured to me that on her profile, her default destination was a PST file and not her Exchange mailbox. After switching her default destination to the Exchange mailbox, her Outlook opened up fine, except for another pop up asking for a password for another PST file. I just cancelled out of it. When I tried to expand the PST files or look at their properties, I get an error that they are not accessible. She told me she really did not need anything from those PST files.  I closed her PST files so they do not appear on her Outlook screen anymore.

When I looked at the Park Camino server backups to change the tapes, I noticed it was in the middle of backing up Misti’s PST files when it ran out of tape. The backup locked up the file while it was backing it up. That was the reason Misti was not able to access it.

We lost account information for ImageOnsite. I called BofA ImageOnSite support but only got the automated answering service. Did not leave a message.

Called in again Monday morning. Got a live tech support. Was able to reset master account successfully. Sent Marivic and Mary Ann initial passwords.

Failed NIC on Debra Hughes’ PC

Mar 13
Comments

Debra called Mary that her PC has an error message that the PCI NIC Bridge failed to initialize. I went to look at it and found that the NIC has failed. Called Dell Support. Since the NIC is integrated on the motherboard, Dell will have to replace the whole motherboard. A technician will be on site to swap the motherboard.

WIN2DATA CDs

Mar 10
Comments

Called FirstAm to follow up on our Win2Data CDs. We haven’t got an updated CD since 2003. We were supposed to have updated CDs every year. Spoke to Rasheed who gave me his direct line and email address. He asked for our account and sales order number, which I gave to him. He was going to research the issue and will try to get back to me before the end of the day.

I also found out there was a newer version (4.3) of Win2Data available for download from the FristAm website. I downloaded it and upgraded my copy of Win2Data. It looked the same as the previous version except it would not take the unlock codes we have for San Diego assessor maps. When I speak to Rasheed again I will ask him if we are entitled to the upgrade, and if so, if we can get valid unlock codes.

Scripps Ranch dataline down.

Mar 10
Comments

Seems like every time it rains, the dataline at Scripps Ranch goes down. They went down last week after it rained and today they went down again. I was planning on changing one of the server hard drives tonight. I wonder if I should just do it some other time.

Mike Palfy’s SuperSearch does not work for Orange or Los Angeles County

Mar 10
Comments

Problem: When Mike searches for information for an individual from LA or OC, no entries for TO show up, and he could not proceed with the search.

Cause: No TO entries are set on his SuperSearch configuration file for LA or OC.

Solution: Added the necessary TO entries.

What’s weird: This problem did not occur until two days ago. If it worked because the TO codes were there before, how did it get deleted? If it worked before even without the TO codes, what was changed that caused it to not work anymore?

Scanned maps for CPF department

Mar 10
Comments

The CPF wants a common folder to store and access maps they scan on the RICOH scanner. Currently, CPF users makes the scanner email the scanned files to themselves, and then they save the scanned files on their individual computers.

I created a folder on the shared drive on the Northside server. I instructed Lynette how to access it and outlined the procedure on how to save files to their from the scanner.

Last day by myself

Mar 09
Comments

Today is the last day that I’m working by myself. Mary will be coming back tomorrow. I’ve taken care of the backups. I’ll need to replace one of the hard drives of the Scripps Ranch server. I’m thinking of doing it Friday night. The first drive is the SYS volume and the second drive is the VOL1 volume. The VOL1 volume has developed bad sectors and keeps deactivating. I have transferred most of the important files to the SYS volume.

Things were more quiet today than they were the last three days. Not too many calls. Carola needed help with her passwords, Darlene needed her SuperSearch printer reset and that’s about it.

Noni told me that Gingging is now in New York. He heard from her last January but she has not been returning his call since. She has married somebody she met over the Internet. Noni said the guy was less active but his family was active. Recently got activated because of Gingging.
