Printer objects in Customer Service PCs

Feb 28
Comments

Some PCs in Customer Service still had printer objects that point to print queues in the SD_MKT server instead of pointing to a TCP/IP port. Apparently these printer objects were not converted when we did the migration from SCA to FNFINC domain. I deleted these printer objects and setup new ones configured using TCP/IP ports. I did Deeanna and Vanessa. Mary did Lisa Pearson.

Phone call to Pres. Idos

Feb 26
Comments

Called Pres. Idos to check on how things went at the Mormon Battalion parade and see if he has assigned speakers for tomorrow. I apologized that I was not able to come. He assigned the Magapans to speak tomorrow.

I asked Pres. Idos not to pick me up tomorrow. I’ll drive to church on my own so I can come back after PEC and pick up Jen and the kids. Because of her condition, Jen would rather not drive if she can help it.

Saturday’s Activities for Feb. 25

Feb 26
Comments

Spent all day with my family. I was supposed to take videos of the Mormon Batallion parade at Old Town but Jen wasn’t up to it. I called Geronimo that my family and I will not be able to make it. After breakfast, I played with the kids, then took a long nap. I was also supposed to work at the temple today but thought I’d just keep Jen company instead. After all, the family should be more important than anything else. I need to tell Bro. Pope  I would not be able to work at the temple until a month after Jen delivers the baby.

We waited for Luke to wake up from his nap before we left to run errands. We decided to get some groceries first. By the time we got to Food4Less, Jill was asleep in the car. Luke and I stayed in the van with Jill while Jen did the shopping. We then went to Maharlika’s to buy some cooked food. we met the Badiola’s at the parking lot. I parked next to their car which happened to have run out of battery. They were in the middle of calling for roadside assistance from AAA. I was able to jump start their car so they called off the roadside assistance.

We did not go to the mall like we planned to because Jill was still asleep. We went back home and had dinner.

Janet Frank’s printing issue

Feb 24
Comments

Janet Franks reported that when she prints her emails, the printout is a bunch of numbers and unreadable characters. When I looked into it, it turned out to be the PDF attachments that were not printing right. I looked at the installed printer drivers on the printer. It was a Lexmark T616 postscript driver. I replaced the driver with a Lexmark T616 PCL driver. I used the installler that was stored in the La Jolla server. That seemed to have fixed the problem.

Sales rep Blackberry issues

Feb 24
Comments

A sales rep called and reported that his Blackberry has not been receiving emails. He said Billy worked on his computer yesterday and that may have something to do with it. He called me because he could not get a hold of Billy. I told him he may just needs to resync his device with his Outlook profile. He told me the last time Billy fixed this problem, Billy did not need his Blackberry device. I told him I’ll get a hold of Billy.

I called Billy. Billy said he never worked on the sales rep’s PC yesterday. He said he just called in to the FNF help desk to reset his password. Billy also said the last time a similar problem occured with the sales rep’s Blackberry, he had to resync the device. Billy is going to call the sales rep.

Park Camino Database lock up

Feb 24
Comments

Mary Gregory called me at home at 8:42 and asked me to check the Park Camino escrow database. Eugene reported that when users login to the database, they get a message that the database is open for read-only access. I called Eugene and had him open the database. He did not get the error message anymore. I asked him to call me if any issues come up again. Around 9:00 am, Sherrie reported that when she tries to create a new escrow entry, the database takes her to the debug mode. I told her I’d look into it when I get to the office. When I checked on her at the office, she told me all the issues went away after Mary put in the second backup tape. She thinks the server might have been in the middle of backing up the database when it asked for the next tape and locked the database file up until it was done backing up the entire file. I think that may be what happened.

The problem is if this continues to happen every day. They can’t wait until the tape is changed so they can access their database. Possible solutions: 1. Install a bigger tape drive 2. Reduce the amount of files on the server so it will fit on one drive. 3. Do not backup the entire server, just backup the directories that changes every day.

Suzanne Cross’ laptop

Feb 24
Comments

Yesterday, at 3:02 p.m. I got an email from Diane Lindsey asking me to help Suzanne with her access to TEAM at home. I told Suzanne to bring her laptop in her office in Bonita so I can pick it up or work on it there. Today I dropped by the Bonita office and checked out her laptop. VPN and NGS were already installed and working. I just had to install Reflection and copy the SANDIE settings file on her desktop.

We had password issues in her FNFINC domain account. We got locked out a couple of times and had to call FNF support to unlock her account and reset her password.

Root canal for kids?

Feb 24
Comments

Jen took Luke and Jill to the dentist for the very first time today. Jen said the kids were cooperative and had a pleasant time. The dentist recommended a root canal for two of Jill’s teeth and fillings on three molars. Total cost for the work recommended is more than $2000. Yes, we only have a minimal copay, about $25 per tooth, insurance covers the balance. The dentist justified the necessity of the procedures because he said the condition of the baby teeth could affect the health of the permanent teeth that replaces them. However, I had a feeling some of these procedures may be unnecessary since the teeth will just fall off one a time in the next few years. The dentist just wants to milk the insurance companies.

I did not have he best oral hygiene practice when I was growing up. Tiyay Maret and Tiyay Kit did encourage me and my cousins to brush after every meal, but we were never taught how to floss. As a student at CPU Elementary, we get to have an annual checkup at the school’s dental clinic. I remember when I was five or six when my baby teeth started to fall off one by one. One summer, I spent summer vacation in Hinobaan where Tiyay Maret worked at ILCO hospital. I stayed at Manong Tikboy’s house. That summer, Tiyay Maret arranged to have some dental work done for me. I had five of my remaining baby teeth pulled in one sitting.  I am pretty sure they were all full of cavities by then. Soon after that, my permanent teeth started coming out. I had a full set of permament teeth by the time I was in High School. In one of my dental checkups, the dentist commended my teeth. She said I had a perfect set of strong teeth. Apparently, none of those cavities which I had from my baby teeth affected the growth of my permanent teeth.

So, should I have the dentist recommended work done for Jill? I’d have to search the Internet to see what people say. I may have to ask other dentists we can trust who do not have a vested interest in the matter.
